Biography
Thomas L. Kempner, Jr. is the President of Keewaydin Investments LLC. a firm he founded in 2020. Tom is the former Executive Managing Member of Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, a firm he co-founded in 1984. He became Executive Managing Member in January 2004 and retired from the firm in December 2019. Prior to joining Davidson Kempner, Tom began his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co from 1978 to 1981. He later worked in principal investments at two small firms, Loeb Partners and First City Capital.
Tom graduated from the Harvard Business School in 1978, with distinction, and from Yale College in 1975 with a BA in computer science, magna cum laude. He is presently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Central Park Conservancy and President of Board of Trustees of The St. Bernard’s School in New York. He is a Trustee of the Ford Foundation, Harlem Village Academies, and Mount Sinai Health System, Inc. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Harvard Management Company.
Mr. Kempner participates in competitive Stand-Up Paddle Boarding and is an avid rock climber. He is a passionate supporter of education, the environment and performing arts. He has lived in New York all his life and is fortunate that two of his three children live in New York City.
